During numerical solution of the problem of paraxial beam propagation, this transformation allows the computational expense to be decreased markedly, particularly in the case of large Fresnel numbers (small wave parameters).
For L / D 8, the value of 1 increases very slowly toward the theoretical limit, whereas parameters 3 , 6 , and 10 decrease at approximately the same speed, thus showing the poor approximation of high-order aberrations.
