If you are in doubt about your skill here, the easy and safe way of doing this job is to cut the bilge panels wide enough to more than span the space they are to fill. Tape them in place on the outside of the hull, and from the inside mark off their shapes using the edges of the sides and bottom as guides. Do not assume that because you have made one that fits you can use it as a pattern for the other. It's highly unlikely. Fit each one individually. Sand and fit, sand and fit, until the panels slip into place like a glove.

Asa Thomson built some of his boats this way, and they proved to be long lasting. The compartment can be either for dry storage, like the one shovvn, or can be made (as Thomson did) floodable for use as a bait well.
